Why zone control matters

Different spaces need different music.

Music affects behavior. Tempo changes how quickly people move through a space; energy shapes how long guests linger; genre sets expectations about the experience. A hotel lobby and its adjacent cocktail bar serve fundamentally different purposes at the same hour. When you play one stream across your entire business, you're making a compromise in every space. Zone control eliminates that compromise.

Zone 1
Hotel Lobby
Sophisticated Ambient
Calm, unhurried. Gives arriving guests space to decompress. Low BPM, warm harmonic content.
Zone 2
Hotel Bar
Upbeat Modern Jazz
Higher energy. Encourages conversation, increases dwell time at the bar.
Zone 3
Hotel Restaurant
Warm Indie / Soul
Relaxed but not sleepy. Supports conversation, extends table time.

Each of these zones shares the same licensing, dashboard, and account. But the music in each is independently selected, scheduled, and controlled, the architectural approach to a spatial problem. You wouldn't use the same lighting temperature in every room. The same logic applies to sound.

Zone Control

Every zone, its own sound.

Each zone gets its own independent music program, different scenes, different schedules, all managed from one dashboard. Every room runs exactly the right sound without any staff involvement.

Setup guide

How to set up multi-zone music in 5 steps.

Getting multi-zone music running takes under an hour for most businesses. Here's the exact process.

1
Map your physical zones

Walk your space and identify distinct audio areas, typically separated by walls, function, or customer type. A restaurant might have: dining floor, bar, hallways, patio. Each becomes a zone in your account.

2
Connect your playback hardware

Sonos groups connect natively. Q-SYS and Epicentre follow their setup guides. No dedicated hardware? Any zone can stream via a browser tab on any device.

3
Assign a scene to each zone

Browse thousands of curated scenes and assign one to each zone as a starting point, organized by energy, genre, and environment ("Spa", "Upscale Dining", "High-Energy Bar"). Preview before assigning, change anytime.

4
Set your daypart schedule per zone

Dining plays soft jazz 11am–3pm, switches to warm indie 3pm–10pm. Bar plays lounge 4–8pm, house after. Weekday vs. weekend patterns repeat automatically.

5
Go live. Everything runs automatically.

Music transitions automatically; staff don't need to touch it. Override any zone remotely at any time. Fully ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR licensed from the moment your account is active.

Business types

How different businesses use zone control.

Every multi-zone business has its own logic for how spaces relate to each other.

Three distinct spaces, one account
  • Dining floor: warm, conversational, mid-tempo
  • Bar: higher energy, genre-forward
  • Patio / waiting area: ambient, unobtrusive
Full-Service Hotel
Every department has a sound identity
  • Lobby: sophisticated ambient or light jazz
  • Restaurant: dining-appropriate scenes by time
  • Bar/lounge: higher energy after 6pm
  • Fitness center: high-intensity mixes
Med Spa / Wellness
Separation is the experience
  • Reception: welcoming, warm, slightly upbeat
  • Treatment rooms: deep calm, minimal, therapeutic
  • Relaxation lounge: slow, enveloping ambient
Fitness & Gym
Match the energy of the space
  • Main floor: high-tempo, high-energy
  • Stretching / yoga studio: slow, grounded
  • Front desk / lobby: neutral, welcoming
