What is music scheduling

Dayparting: the professional's approach to business music.

Dayparting is a broadcasting concept applied to music: divide the day into distinct segments and assign different content to each. A radio station plays different programming at 7am than at 11pm. Your business should too, morning customers are different from evening customers, with different expectations, energy levels, and reasons for being in your space.

Research on music and consumer behavior consistently shows tempo, volume, and genre affect how long people stay, how much they spend, and how they feel. These effects are time-sensitive: high-tempo music that speeds table turnover at lunch becomes counterproductive on a slow weekday evening when you want people to linger.

The measurable impact of music timing

Slower music leads to longer stays and higher per-table spend, but the same slow music during a packed lunch service creates bottlenecks. Smart scheduling means you control which effect is active when:

  • Fast tempo during peak throughput periods (lunch rush, morning queues)
  • Slower tempo during evenings when dwell time drives revenue
  • High energy on Friday/Saturday evenings vs. calmer mid-week nights
  • Weekend brunch energy vs. weekday morning efficiency
Setup guide

How to set up a music schedule.

The Curator Now scheduler takes about 15 minutes to set up for most businesses. Here's the process from blank slate to fully automated dayparting.

1
Identify your service periods

List the distinct phases of your day: breakfast, lunch, afternoon lull, dinner, late bar (or morning peak, mid-morning, afternoon, evening peak, quiet close). These become your time blocks.

2
Match a scene to each block

Browse thousands of curated scenes tagged by energy level, genre, and environment. Start close-enough and refine over a few weeks, the point is each block sounds intentionally different from the last.

3
Set weekday vs. weekend variations

Saturday evening may call for higher energy than Wednesday. Configure each day independently, or group them (Mon–Thu, Fri–Sat, Sun) if that's enough granularity.

4
Preview transitions and go live

Make sure the energy shift at each boundary feels natural, not jarring. Curator Now's transitions are designed to be musically smooth. When happy, activate, it runs automatically from there.

5
Override and refine as you go

If the 3pm shift feels too early, move it to 4pm. Fully editable at any time; changes take effect immediately or on the next cycle, your choice.
