Five songs you need to hear right now!
Happy Fall! Here’s five tunes to ease you out of summer and potentially stay a bit brat.
Jack J – Wrong Again
Jack J likes to stay behind the music. Even his moniker is devoid of hype. As one-half of Vancouver’s Pender Street Steppers and their label Mood Hut, Jack J has walked the line between club tunes and Arthur Russell-like somber pop. “Wrong Again” evokes a late 90s UK vibe reminiscent of The Beloved, Banderas, and Soul II Soul. Jack’s album “Blue Desert” comes out on November 1st, so hit that “Pre-save” button so you don’t miss out.
Charli XCX – Von dutch a.g. cook remix featuring addison rae
Is it going to be Brat Fall? Charli’s remix album is here, and it’s already racking up millions of plays. With heavy hitters like Lorde, Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan, and Billie Eilish making appearances, it’s hard to ignore the resurrection of brat.
Machinedrum – GROWUP featuring Kilo Kish
Travis Stewart releases the deluxe version of his “3FOR82” album on October 25th. In advance, we’re treated to “GROWUP” with Kilo Kish, a driving dancefloor banger where Machinedrum fuses House, 2-step, Footwork, IDM, and D&B. “GROWUP” is a solid track that feels like an a-side more than a bonus. The deluxe edition comes with six new tracks and six instrumentals for a total of 24 heaters.
Ezra Collective – Shaking Body
Mercury Prize-winning Ezra Collective’s latest album, “Dance, No One’s Watching,” is a journey to the multi-cultural experience of London’s music scene. Rooted in Jazz, the group explores Soul, Caribbean, African, and Latin themes on their 19-track album. It’s a joy to listen to from start to finish. “Shaking Body” captures the album’s energy and rich tapestry of sounds.
Biig Piig – Decimal
Jessica Smyth, AKA Biig Piig, grew up in Spain until she was 12. On “Decimal,” Smyth opens with Spanish lyrics that may catch fans off guard unless they know that upon returning to her native Ireland at 12, after growing up in Spain, Smyth could only read and write in Spanish. Since 2017, Biig Piig has released a steady stream of great pop songs with Spanish lyrics peppered across her authentic brand of Indie-Pop mixed with the sounds of London’s club scene.
